The most famous and common type of conference interpreting is simultaneous interpreting.
In this type of interpreting, the professional –the interpreter– works inside a sound-proof booth where she or he translates the speaker's message from the original to the target language on the fly.
The oldest (conference) interpreting mode is consecutive interpreting.
In consecutive interpreting, the interpreter takes notes of the speaker's message while she or he is talking and then, once the speaker has finished, the interpreter reproduces the message in the target language.
Liaison / Bilateral Interpreting
For 'tête à tête' conversations or small meetings.
The interpreter facilitates communication between two parties, thus creating a fluent conversation in which two languages interact. It differs from consecutive interpreting because here the speaker should make shorter interventions.
